My Initial Thoughts
I was intrigued as to how a dark retelling was going to go and jumped straight into the series. Did I read the blurb.. absolutely…. Not. I just wanted to jump back in the land of Oz. I would say I would of loved to read the prequal first but it doesn’t actually really add much to the book as it was only 35 pages.
 Plot
So the plot delivered in places, sometimes I found it dull and at the beginning I was going to put it down but it picks up and then I loved the adventure and the weirdness of the story. It’s like the mad hatter went to Oz and started collecting heads and laughing manically.

I enjoyed the dark morally grey version of Tin! This was a great twist, with the characters being grown up and separated. Some twists even shocked me! But I enjoyed the ride.
 Characters
Tin is now morally gray, Dorothy is back in the land of Oz not having a clue that someone has called for her head! I think Crow steals the show though, despite not being a main character in this one, it makes the pull to read the next book stronger. The wheelers had me feeling icky, such strangeness happening.
 Recommend
Fancy a trip to Oz, but would rather keep your head. Try this.
 Favourite Quote
“Once a villain dies, another always rises. Good doesn’t always conquer evil.”
Favourite Chapter/s
My favourite chapter were 15 and 24.
Summed up in one sentence
A trip down memory lane, just grown up.
Overall Wrap up
I did enjoy parts of this, I just felt like something is missing but I couldn’t tell you what. I loved Tin and his morally gray attitude. But I loved that they both had the touch each other and be unalived trait! This is a series I think can only get better as it goes on and I honestly loved the last 50 or so pages. The tension was such a build up and the unknown and survival needs. It just ramped everything up. I’m looking forward to Crow having read Lion now as well.
