House Rules by Jodi Picoult
3.0

This is one of my least favorite Picoult novels at this point. This books starts off a bit more slowly than other Jodi Picoult novels that I have read.I like that this book keeps some of its mystery by not revealing who killed Jess right away or if she was even really murdered.I'm starting to notice a pattern in Picoult novels of women just having sex with men who are kind of random(i.e. the mother from keeping faith with ian fletcher, the mother from this book with her son's lawyer). I mean the sexual encounters will presumably blossom into relationships, but these women and men don't know that. They're just acting without thinking, which makes it a bit harder to take them seriously. I've also noticed that in novels where she writes about a disabled child, the mother always seems to be neglectful toward that child's siblings(i.e. handle with care, my sister's keeper). I really don't like that. She makes it seem that in order for a mother to love her disabled child, she has to neglect her other children and that is not the case. I also can't decide whether or not I really liked the ending of this book.
