Alice by Christina Henry

1.0

I'm sorry but I gave up after getting more than halfway through, and I only kept reading because I hate to abandon the book. Alice herself has all the personality of a wet paper bag. She lovingly follows an axe murderer, the only male character who isn't a rapist or sex trafficker, around a dark, gritty city which may or may not lead to answers to questions about things that I'm not even sure about or really care to know. The idea of Wonderland as a nightmare of sexual horror is unfortunately, not an original one, and not executed with an interesting story, fleshed out characters, or remarkable writing. There are major inconsistencies and flat, one dimensional storytelling void of any redeeming insight. I feel bad saying all this, but I was genuinely turned off by nearly everything about this book.
