Blood & Steel is the first book in a new fantasy romance series by Helen Scheuerer and I LOVED it! In this story, we follow 24-year old Althea Zoltaire and her younger sister Wren - orphans who grew up in Thezmaar and, being women, are prohibited from bearing arms or even training with weapons. Althea, who goes by Thea, has wanted nothing more than to be a Shieldbearer and defend her realm but due to a prophecy and events that happened when Thea & Wren were just children, Thea’s dreams will not be coming true. Yet, she is determined to learn and train - even it means in secret - because Thea also wears a fate stone and her life is to be cut short at 27 - in 3 years. With nothing to lose, time running out, and a Warsword - the greatest warriors of the realm - by the name of Wilder Hawthorne in the picture, Thea will face more challenges than she could have prepared herself for. Enemies to lovers, prophecies, magic, and friendship goals that will make you feel so happy - this was such a fun time! I love the found family, the sisterly bond, and of course the chemistry with Thea and Wilder! A five star!! Highly recommend!
