Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren
4.0
lighthearted
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Diverse cast of characters: No

Pippi Longstocking was a favorite book of mine as a child. I'm sure i read it dozens of times.  I was curious to reread it as an adult.  The story is full of absurdity that I'm sure delighted me as a child.  As an adult I noticed many of the Scandinavian cultural elements in the story that I wouldn't have noticed as a child.  Such a short easy listen that briefly took my mind away from our dumpster fire world for a few hours,  and left me curious to know more "behind the scenes" information about the author, time, and place wherein Pippi was written. There's lots of Pippi's tall tales that involve non European nations and cultures that felt problematic to me,  but in many ways the story seems to upend societal gender and age expectations of the time,  so I'm just curious to know more about it.

(I really had no idea how to rate this so I kept it at the fond childhood memory rating I'd given it originally.)
