The first chapter had promise, and then it took a sharp nosedive from there. It was boring, the characters sucked, there were so many sentences being repeated (like we understood that the Gabriel would make a handsome match with the Kitten the first five times it got said, but let's say it again for anyone who missed it) and any bit of interesting plot is either in the past or done offscreen by other characters.
Drusilla had potential, but no substance. It's said that she's a smart woman who does charity work but that work is never seen except through using a man as an intermediary, who is actually scamming her. The whole relationship conflict comes from her insulting her crush to his face and starting a fight with him whenever she sees him for five years, and is then upset when he doesn't like her.
Gabriel is also wasted. His whole backstory and relationships with his mistresses is so interesting, but then he does like nothing in the present? Also, him going from 'how am I going to find any happiness in my life stuck with this woman' to twirling his hair 'omg her laugh is amazing why didn't I see how great she was' about twelve hours later because he got a look at what Drusilla's apparently massive rack looks like in a low cut neckline? Relatable, but so not interesting to read.
Also jamming an entire third act into the last three chapters because plotlines had to be tied up that got interrupted by the seemingly non-stop fuckfest from the middle of the book on was not elegantly done. I would have given one star for Eva's existence, but just like her presence from when the fuckfest started, it disappeared, because everyone knows that friendships evaporate when you start getting dick.
