Unexpectedly, I found myself enraptured by this book in the beginning. Meyer's writing has improved tremendously in some ways when compared with the first Twilight novel, and I particularly enjoyed that there was more introspection and world building in this version to balance out the dialogue-heavy original. Unfortunately, I realized about half way through that Edward's head is a monotonous, irritating place to be. He really does come across as insufferable. In contrast, Bella's character has a little more depth seen through Edward's eyes.
A major complaint I have is that it feels that Meyer very poorly connected Edward's internal thoughts and feelings to the existing dialogue. There was quite a bit of pointless, bloated filler.
