Hendrix, the female baker lead, was succeeding at her cookie bakery enterprise until she found her ex cheating and kicked him out. On his way out, he took most of her cash, claiming she owed him for his investment in her business.
Jase Gizmodo, the male rockstar lead, needs a judge to sign off on an exemption from his probation and his previously accommodating judge is no longer available. When his lawyer/brother suggests a marriage of convenience to improve his perceived reputation, Jase isn’t excited. Then he remembers hearing that Hendrix needed help and thinks she’ll be more trustworthy than anyone his brother or publicist could come up with.
Living together and spending time together builds a relationship that neither Jase nor Hendrix anticipated. But Hendrix’s ex is still a shadow in her rear view mirror, and Jase is hiding secrets of his own. Can they build a sustainable relationship?
This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a fast-paced, rockstar/baker, marriage of convenience, contemporary romance. I enjoyed Hendrix’s determination to not be sucked into Jase’s world just because he was attractive and charismatic. I enjoyed that she continued to work towards her own goals. I enjoyed the loyalty she showed to Jase. I enjoyed Jase’s compassion and his determined encouragement of Hendrix’s self esteem and confidence. I empathised with his historical trauma and coping mechanisms. I enjoyed the relationship development, and the steamy intimate moments. I enjoyed the engaged secondary characters. I enjoyed the ending, linking past and future for Jase - it was beautiful and made me cry.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
