Batman: Earth One Vol. 1 by Geoff Johns

3.0

I really enjoyed this was, but as a caveat, I'm not as huge of a Batman fan, or as well-versed in Batman continuity as many others. In general, I enjoy Geoff Johns's writing, and I felt that this new spin on Batman's origins was plausible. This origin story, in many ways, seems more "realistic" (albeit "more" realistic because there are still dudes running around in costume), yet, for the most part, seems to maintain much of the spirit of the original characters. I also felt a different kind of anticipation for what would come next, because I wasn't quite sure which things Johns would maintain versus when there would be twists. The only thing, which might turn out to be a big thing (I'll know after reading volume 2), is that I miss the old acerbic, brownie-baking Alfred.
