If you love when the boyfriends are boyfriends, with a side of darkness and tragic backstories (definitely check your trigger warnings), this might be your book. We’ve got a mafia daughter FMC being forcibly married off to a less than willing business associate MMC, and a bodyguard/mercenary MMC. Brianna was terrified to marry Roman because all she knew was that he was an associate of her mother, and her relationship with her mother was terrible to begin with. Aldous had his own traumatic backstory, resulting in him being unable to stand crowds or able to tolerate most physical touch. Roman’s golden retriever vibe not only balanced out the fact that he was an exceptionally talented gun for hire, but also helped Brianna to slowly soften Aldous’s emotionally damaged, grumpy CEO character. I loved watching the relationship between these three characters form and evolve. They really showed a lot of care in the way they interacted with each other. This book, while dealing with extremely sensitive and dark subject matter, still managed to somehow feel like a warm hug in the end. I’m not really sure how that happened, but I definitely enjoyed it. Bonus points for Jasmine the Dalmatian, because who doesn’t love a dog sidekick?
