The Woods All Black by Lee Mandelo

4.0

After reading and having mixed feeling on Feed Them Silence, I was a little apprehensive about starting this one. But I’m happy say I really enjoyed this! It felt a lot more polished and it’s evident the amount of research - from language to queer terms to historical facts - that was put into this! The mood is very mysterious and eerier, and I was so invested in what was unraveling. I like to guess the plot and this one I did not see coming.

Some serious topics are covered but it doesn’t feel overwhelmingly heavy and I think a lot is handled with care. The revenge aspect of this was my favorite. Thought I enjoyed the romance, I felt like their connection did seem fast - but this is a short book so I’m not too bothered.

Overall, a great read with great representation and perfect for fans of small-town, literary horror.
