Gulliver's Travels
by Jonathan Swift
If you thought HP Lovecraft was racist/elitist you haven't read Jonathan Swift! There are many parts of the novel where he quite obviously shows his belief that white Europeans are somehow better in every way to all other races. The main character lives among a race of intelligent horses who keep non intelligent humans as labour animals. The book goes on and on about the description of how disgusting these ape men are and how smelly and dumb they are.......but they are described as brown people. Also the only time he talks about women is to talk about negative attributes he sees in women. I could list all the cringy things that were said in this book, but it would be far too long. I believe this novel is a reflection of the times (it was written in 1726) so this kind of attitude is not unexpected, but it was a bit hard to get through at some points.
