Curly Girl: The Handbook by Lorraine Massey

4.0

I think this book is really helpful and has a lot of good information. It maybe goes over the top a bit with criticism of mainstream haircare, in that "let's make this hip and accessible!" kind of way, but if you get past that to the straight advice for curly and wavy hair, it's pretty good. I like that it covers several different types of curls and explains what each is and specific needs for that type. It's always been frustrating for me that my thick wavy hair is hard to manage with most hair products, but a lot of products specifically for curly hair are too intense and heavy for me. Curly Girl does a great job of explaining how to work around that with a very straightforward plan as far as what type of products to use and how to apply them.

It's also very helpful that there is a section of the book on how to change up your style with updos, special occasions, what to do when your hair is at the gym or pool, etc.
