Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male America by Ijeoma Oluo

5.0

The author does a great job with the Audible narration, and I listened to the whole book in a couple days.

This book has left me with dozens of historical and modern examples of the White male inability to see women and minorities come to the forefront of representation, power, or discussion. Yes, I'm a White male, and I certainly hope I will never do the awful things described in this book and which fill our history books. As a White male, though, I still benefited from reading this, and honestly, there were parts that were a cautionary tale to me, a vision of a dark road some White men can go on when the intersectionality or economic liberty they themselves mihht fight for starts to find its focus on non-White non-male people. It's good stuff, and whoever you are, you'll benefit from reading this book. Trigger warning, of course, that there is a LOT of discussion of violently racist people and she is not shy about including their direct quotes displaying the horrific nature of their beliefs.
