While most popular World War II narratives are written after it, Kressmann's book is a chilling account of the sentiments following the rise of Hitler while it was still current events. It's a short book, so easily worth the read. My only complaint is that I don't believe that Kressman ever truly grapples with her thesis: how does a good man turn evil under the effects of Hitler's poison?
