If you loved we were liars then this could be a good follow-up book for you. However don't read it before we were liars as a huge part of the twist of the original book will be revealed to you.
It's taken me a few days to write this review and I finally realised why. Though I quite like the books and am looking forward to the third being released I wonder why editors didn't encourage the writer to flesh out the stories more or write more books from more likeable characters points of view, which could have left a fan to attempt to sort out what actually happened and the truth about both books. For me, it's the wrong story told and by the wrong people. This book will probably not satisfy any outstanding questions that you have from the first book.
Things I loved about this book was the continued use of fairytales, the fact it didn't feel like it was written as a cryptic crossword like the first book and it was interesting to see the dynamics of the sisters too. Maybe we need a pre prequel with Harris and Tipper.
Things I disliked about this book was not knowing if present day was happening throughout the first book and there not being enough present day, no interactions with the sisters in present day either felt like a mistake, not normal reactions almost to information found out in the present. The fact that you are finding out about carries teenage years rather than when she met Johnny's father which I think might if been more interesting and perhaps relatable for some readers.
Overall it was well written and I enjoyed it but it told the wrong story to me. As Johnny was a favourite character from the TV show and companion book as I like to call the first novel I wanted to see more of how Carrie's choices shaped his life. Maybe I feel this way because I saw the TV show first but I do have a few more of the authors books that I got in a bundle and am looking forward to trying another to see if she misses the good characters or tells the wrong story while I wait for we fell apart. Let's hope after the TV show and characters that were popular that had depth, Johnny mirren and ed, she considers writing more books from their points of view.
