Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasley

This isn't what I expected! I do this thing where I see a book I might like, study the reviews, get excited about it, add it to my to-read shelf, and then forget about it. But I remember the cover and that I was excited about it! So then when I come across a book that I recall I wanted to read, I trust myself that it's going to be something I was looking forward to. So I sort of go into a book blind. But full of hopes.

I thought this would be a fun, breezy book about a fantastical circus. And it is, but that's not the main part. It's much more serious and substantial than that, and it takes a second to even understand where it's all going. What's up with the sick grandpa and his mysterious letter to a mysterious man? Why is his sister such an unbearable assbucket? How will his grandson come out remotely ok on the other end? Does he have friends and can he finish important school projects? And where is it all going?

It's a knot of a story, an elegant and cool-looking one. I liked it a lot, and I'm glad I didn't remember even the synopsis. Go blind into this one, you will witness some beautiful miracles!
