Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster
by Svetlana Alexiévich
This book gives every reader something to identify with, mothers, fathers, children, young lovers, single, old... there is a story for every reader to relate to in some capacity. Then throw in that everything in this book is true, this isn't a post apocalyptic science fiction novel, and you have an effective way to bring unaffected individuals to truly care about the plight of a country hundreds of miles away. This book is haunting, and everyone should read it.
