I enjoyed the plot twists near the end of this book but I spent most of it just rolling my eyes at the main characters. I don’t think it’s a spoiler since Bash and Finn are still behaving exactly as they did in the first book. Bash insisting he wants to be a good king but he doesn’t even know what’s going on in his own kingdom, and he insists on forcing himself (emotionally, mostly) on Brie no matter how many times she says no. Finn insisting he wants what’s good for the kingdom even if that’s not him, but not if it means he has to see Brie with Bash, and he keeps playing stupid games even though he knows Brie already has very justifiable trust issues. Brie not seeming to actually like either of them, just lusting after their bodies. I was legit hoping one of the three would die because it was just too frustrating to watch. The solution surprised me but happened so fast and without much afterward that it wasn’t completely satisfying. But definitely better than where I thought it was going.
