The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz

3.0

The Four Agreements was an interesting read paired with many of the other reflective care books I’ve read this year. The overall, high level framing of the four agreements are great, and they connect together in a way that have a deeper self awareness and ownership of your words, others words, breaking away from assumptions, and striving for your best. Of the four agreements, the first agreement resonated the most with the impact your words could have and the ripple of its impact. The don’t take anything personally is also a great explorative journey, but did feel there was some need to have that self awareness embedded in there as well.

It was definitely a quick read, and it’s a good framework to consider exploring especially in the work place and across spaces and places where relationship building is important. Some of the narrative felt a little detached/grounded from stories in which these are applicable, but you as the reader could likely build those connections. And some framing of was a little binary (ie: black magicians versus white magicians) or rooted in religious framing, but the author does link their perspective around God in a meaningful way without limited it to one faith belief.
