I just don't think I'm made for Joe Abercrombie stories. Not to say I will not read them, but that I have LOWERED my expectation. I know that they are character driven, with little to no plot. In fact, this book has more plot in it (still not enough for me) than the entire First Law Trilogy

Our main character, Monsa Murcatto...goes on a wild adventure...with many ups and downs (there's a double entendres in there). I liked her, but didn't always agree with her decisions and who she sided with.

The other character of prominence, is the man that is called, Shivers. He's a fighter and a ne'redowell. The longevity of this character is quite astounding, honestly.

I'm truly surprised by the ending of this book. I do wonder what is in store for the characters represented...and the ones we'll meet in the next tale.

Obviously, I will continue with this new series. This world holds a special place in my heart, though I am frustrated by the lack of plot (in most all his stories). The reader is just tugged by the neck...to just follow along...here and there...with no real meaning for any of it...and still, it is enjoyable reading. How can this be?
