Dessen always impressed me with how well she writes a romance that always feels right at the end no matter what. She writes great characters and stories that have so much depth. Emaline has a lot going on in the summer before college - her boyfriend is restless in their relationship, she’s stressed about college, her biological dad fails to keep promises and be present in her life at the crucial moments, and now there’s this new guy in town helping to shoot a documentary who promises to shake up her small town life with his big city dreams. Emaline just wants to do big things but family and relationships are getting in her way... and is what she wants really what she needs?

I would say this is a solid book. I appreciate a realistic romance and I always enjoy books that center on family dynamics. It definitely isn’t a favorite of mine out of Dessen’s novels but it was enjoyable to read!
