King of Flesh and Bone by Liv Zander

adventurous dark fast-paced

This book got me within the first 10 pages. It was not slow at all. The writing was good and then it went into a murky area that is definitely not for everyone. I almost DNF-ed myself. There are sex scenes that feel noncon to me. I think this was labeled as dub con? I really enjoy dub con where she says no but wants it or is warring with herself. There were parts in this book that had a pretty clear distinction that she did not want it. It's also mentioned that he tears her in the back during so it's that kind of thing. I thought these scenes happened way too fast too, but I am more of a slow burn person to begin with. They do sleep together before feelings.

Once I got past these things it picked up a lot. I liked Ada. She was smart, compassionate and loyal. Enosh grew on me. He was a bit too flippant for my taste at the beginning, but god do I love an immortal Villain who is cavernously lonely and filled with rage because of it. He was cruel and very much a Villain which I appreciate.

Their romance was done well aside from the beginning. I will say there was a girl in his past that sometimes felt he wasn't over if you're sensitive to that. It was odd sometimes because he was very possessive of the heroine.

I really enjoyed the side characters. His brothers were so interesting. I'm hoping they get a book? I loved their different powers and domains. The world building was good for such a short fantasy book. Looking forward to the next book!
