Ariadne by Jennifer Saint
DID NOT FINISH: 77%

I wanted to enjoy this book and I'm impressed I got as far as I did. With the comparisons to Miller's Circe and Song of Achilles, I thought I would love it. The concept was fascinating, the characters decent, but overall the storytelling lacked for me. It felt like way too much telling versus showing. Like I was reading one agonizingly long summary rather than an actual story. I also wasn't thrilled with some of the characterizations in the end and decided that, you know what, I don't have to finish this. So, I abandoned it. A bit disappointing. I was on a Greek kick for a while and thought this would quench my desires. Unfortunately, it fell short. I wouldn't compare it to Miller's works.

(Also, the myth of Medusa we're familiar with---she was a human woman turned into a monster---is a Roman retelling. The original, ancient Greek version of Medusa was always originally a gorgon. This change in the retelling of an ancient Greek myth really bothered me for some reason. As if proper research was not done. A minor issue that most can overlook.)
