Quests for Glory by Soman Chainani

5.0

well, that was rude.

for the first time in four books, i'm mad–mad that i have to actually wait for the next book. goddamnit! this one ended in a freaking cliffhanger and, boy, was it good.

once again, we're back in the endless woods, but this time we get a glimpse of the world beyond the school for good and evil. we see the different kingdoms through the returning characters and some new additions' quests. there's a new foe, one i'd have to say is a much better villain than sophie and the school master. we delve a bit more into dot's history and the resulting relationship between the school and gavaldon. we see agatha and tedros' relationship struggle, learning again that getting to their happy endings are much easier than maintaining it–especially with war constantly on the horizon. we see hort and the coven again (my children!! aLL OF THEM!!!) and more secrets are revealed that are pretty wild. like, the way soman litters these foreshadows and hints are superb. and the meticulous details of the plot and the way he used the theme of truth versus lie, and how his characters bended them–well, let's just say, it was my favorite theme of them all.

wew. onto the next of the camelot years! i'm excited to see what's in store! especially with how this ended. for once, sophie's in the second slot for who i'm worried about most.
