This is such a classic, I've seen and enjoyed both sets of movies! The book definitely has differences and further character development as you'd expect. Overall it feels mixed paced as there are both fast and slower paced scenes.
The world building in this is as good as his other works like Under the Dome, it's definitely something his does well.
The concepts and scenes are very imaginative at times, especially the descriptions relating to Horror elements. There is a good balance between relationships, individual character development stories and the horror focused scenes. This blend gives a novel that you can feel immersed in and feel for the characters hoping they'll be okay. I enjoyed the focus on the friendships between the main characters, they were really sweet. Although that one scene the movies missed out was very uncomfortable to read, I get what Mr King was trying to convey (from an interview he did elaborating on the thought process) but I think the concept could've been shown in a more PG way.
