"I look wrong.
I look dead.
I'm not though. I'm only partway there, a living dead girl.
I have been for five years"

I just happened to pick this book up from the library as I was passing, and I'm so glad I did. This book had me hooked completely, so much so I read it all in one night in one sitting! The book completely grips you from start to finish. It makes you want to read on to know what happens. This book was a pleasure to read. The work of Scott leaves a huge impact on the reader. Also it is such an easy read that anybody could pick it up, despite your reader level and capability.

The opening chapter is the first time we hear Alice, although we do not know it is her speaking. She is describing the day when she was first kidnapped by Ray. We get a feel for the last environment she felt she was "living". Scott introduces the book with a gripping chapter and leaves you wanting to know more.

As the story develops, Scott creates a character that the reader loves and begins to care for. She is developed very quickly into the novel and I think the reader can really feel for her and what she is going though.

The character of Ray is described as "heavy and pushing". I think this an accurte description of the man you will resent during this book. He first kidnapped Alice when she was ten and she was on a school trip to the aquarium. Since then he has been raping and abusing her daily. He doesn't feed Alice as he doesn't want her to grow up, he wants her to stay the fragile dainty girl he kidnapped five years ago, because of this he rarely feeds her and starves her. This only adds to Alice's trauma's.

The book leads you on a rollercoaster of Alice's life. Even though it is only set within a few weeks maximum, you get to experience Alice's life and see her face some of the most difficult decisions of her life. Alice thought she knew how her life would end, but she was wrong. Ray had different plans, ones she could never have guessed.

Overall I think this book was a fantastic read. It was quick, easy to follow and very simple, yet it was still a book that has touched my heart and will stay with me forever. It will leave you hooked. Five Stars - *****
