Thats it! no more tiktok books! 🙅🏻♀️🚫 I really tried to connect and understand what’s happening in this book but I think it’s the lack of cohesion in plot, awful pacing and the overly descriptive narration that kept me losing the point. This would have been a good concept, a ghost cat living with different people and exploring their lives in progressing decades with historical facts mixed in. I think someone from the UK would appreciate the culture references mentuoned here including the accents used in some of the dialogues. Grimalkin as a cat was okay, I wish the author gave him a smarter and more witty voice to make him more likeable. The humans though felt flat, their actions lack context, thay have no backstory or any memorable traits whatsoever. There were some footnotes which apparently are more interesting than the actual story. Well I guess this is it, I finally found my least favorite book of 2025 and let me save you your time and tell you that there are better cat books out there than this. But if you did enjoy it then I’m still glad for you. Storygraph’s personal reccomendations warned me about this book and I didn’t listen so here I am. From someone who finds it hard and rarely dnfs a book, I really wanted to dnf this a 100 pages in but ended up speed reading the rest of the chapters. I felt uneasy, like I was just forcing it. I felt my brain turning into mush. I also tried reading four star reviews on fable and I guess there were some who found some joy in it, I on the otherhand just got more confused and unhappy. Still, no regrets, as a reader, I’m taking this as a learning experience- it made me get to know my limits as this is almost became my first DNF this year. I learned to stick to my gut and stop torturing myself. To know my preferences better for my own sake! and for my own reading future Amen! ahhuhuhuhuh! 😭❤️🩹🙏
