“I barely knew her, yet it felt like I’d known her forever. Everything was easy with Hadley.”

Pieces of You was such a ride!
Most of the book happens during a wedding week, between the Maid of Honor and the Best Man. But this story is so much more than another wedding RomCom!
Hadley and Jesse are both deeply hurt and they had to face events that made their life in danger. They both deal with the aftermath and a big part of the book is dealing with how they learn to trust each other, open, and help the other when the past is coming back, in their body or their brain.
I adored that part, how anxiety, pain and PTSD was dealt with. The tone is sweet, a bit languorous as they learn how to lean on each other. A great portion of the story is spent doing mundane things, confiding into each other, about “big” things but also pop culture or food. That love story felt deeply real, soft, tense and spicy all at once. They become the other’s advocate, their crutch in the best of sense, as they stand for each other, no matter what. That’s one of my favourite love languages.
The last part is an avalanche however. So much happens here that it takes your breath out. It was almost too much for me and my little heart, because Life had taken so much for them already. Yet, it allows the author to explore even more feelings (and I won’t ever say No to that).
Once again, I had a great time reading the Indie bookclub’s pick !!
