This book walked the tightrope of mysterious, magical secret societies and just the right amount of eerie, creepy paranormal shivers for me. About a quarter of the way in, I realized there was no way I was going to guess where this plot had us going, so I was content to follow along with Alex as she learned and uncovered mystery after mystery, secret after secret, and connection after connection. The few guesses I did hazard were at least partially correct, which I'll take as a win for me, but it had me guessing and questioning everything at every turn. I definitely plan to pick up the second book, but maybe need a breather and a few light hearted books in between now and then.
