Fleabag: The Original Play by Phoebe Waller-Bridge
4.0
Really interesting to see the structure of this as a one-woman play after having seen the TV show. I think the show fleshed a lot of these characters out in a nice way, but she really does capture them here in just a brief description or anecdote. Funny and sharp. I'd love to see it performed, but you can really hear her voice in it either way.
I find it interesting that the play is a bit darker than the show, mostly regarding Hilary, but I really like the structure. The first season of the show occasionally felt slow and meandering, and the play is a lot shorter and incredibly punchy. The things I liked least about the show (ableism, fat jokes) are turned up pretty high here, but when it's all in this angry, scathing character's voice, it feels more like the sentiment is coming from her and less like it's coming from the narrative.
