Listen for the Lie
by Amy Tintera
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This really had me hooked from the very beginning. A story about a young divorcee who her entire hometown thinks she killed her best friend years ago. The FMC had received blunt force trauma to the head that night, and had no memory of that day. She agrees to go back to her hometown for her grandmother's 80th birthday, only to be confronted by everyone around her. All the while, she's been hounded by a podcaster who is doing a true crime podcast about her best friend's murder, and has been begging to interview her. So this book is told from present day events, as well as you get the scenes from the podcast as they air.
I thought the element of storytelling through the podcast format was unique, and I enjoyed reading the segments and trying to piece missing things together from the people who were interviewed on it. I also could not believe all the town scandals it unearthed. Damn near everyone there was cheating on their spouses or significant others, several had alcohol abuse issues, and half the women were or had been in abusive relationships. The entire town sounded like a complete shit show! But it was a nice paced thriller, that was just twisty enough to hold my attention all the way through.
