This book was not what I was expecting. I'm an avid fan of the TV show Bones, and knowing this was the source material I picked up 90% of the book series with that hope. Needless to say the endless terrible descriptions and metaphors/similes really killed the first half of this book. You can tell this is someone's first novel with those mechanics as some of the other prose. The early sections stand out for the medical procedures and with some of the descriptions where they needed to livid and colorful provided an almost TV like sensation to what was happening. That being said, the first 50-70% of the novel would have gotten 2 stars, however once it starts to roll, everything straightens itself out. The prose becomes more fluid, the endless descriptions end, and the action of the novel really takes off. I desperately wanted to give this 4 stars but the beginning dredge where I worried about having purchased an entire series that appeared to be a dud waved me off to the 3 stars. Needless to say, I'm excited to see what happens in book 2 and hope it continues with how this novel ended.
