The Sign of the Four by Arthur Conan Doyle
5.0
After loving the Jeremy Brett version from the 90’s, I knew I needed to read this Holmes story soon. Probably the third or fourth most famous Conan Doyle Sherlock-story (after ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ and ‘A Study in Scarlet’), the ‘Sign of Four’ tells the story a search for lost treasure, and a man’s vengeance against those that took it from him. Whilst some of the narrative is dated by today’s standards, and themes regarding race and colonialism stand our starkly, it is still a classic Holmes mystery worth reading by anyone interested in this genre.
