Sweet story with flawed, but likeable characters who develop positively by communicating with each other! The art style is adorable, pleasant, and very much my cup of tea! Soft, curved lines abound in the illustrations and the limited color palette is easy on the eyes--the black and white communicates the story with clarity and the few colors chosen (muted teal, soft peach...)  set the mood effectively for certain scenes. The characters are also wonderfully expressive! Their personalities come across strongly and even mundane scenes feel dynamic.

The only real issue I have with Thieves is that I think that Ella and Madeleine become a couple waaaay too quickly. They decide to become a couple during their first full-blown conversation!! They barely know anything about each other beforehand so it comes across as shallow insta-love. Luckily, there is some romantic development to be had between the two so the relationship doesn't feel too flat. I would've preferred it if they fell in love while carrying out their mission to
return the stolen items to their rightful owners
