The Last Days of Night
by Graham Moore
If you read a lot of historical fiction, it might feel sometimes as though everything is about WWII, the Civil War, or the period just before it. I highly recommend this one if you want something a little different in terms of history, in this case scientific progress and the giants behind it, the inventors, the businessmen, the money men and lord yes, even the lawyers.
Thomas Edison and Nicola Tesla are larger than life in any setting, though George Westinghouse perhaps a little less so as far as my education goes. Moore does a nice job portraying how different they are while trying to achieve the same goal, bringing electric light to the world.
Be sure to read the author’s note at the end to see how he used the known facts and people to craft this very entertaining story.
