The Waiting
by Michael Connelly
The Waiting is a book I really looked forward to reading, and I'm happy to say that it didn’t disappoint.
I've read loads of books on murder mysteries, but I've never read one with a unit that solves cold cases. This was a first, and a good read. This book doesn’t revolve around just ‘one’ plot, but there are multiple plots (cases) being solved side by side. The first case (not related to the cold case unit) gets solved around halfway through the book, and it doesn’t have much impact on the other two cases, which are much bigger.
Halfway through the book, I had a feeling that the two big cases might have some sort of connection, but I understood it better after reading the whole book. The pace is medium, and there aren’t too many characters, so it doesn’t get complicated or confusing.
Three-quarters of the way through the book, there is a major plot twist that I didn’t see coming. I wish it hadn’t happened, but it was important for the story to progress.
Overall, it is an interesting read, and I would recommend it to mystery readers.
I thank the publisher for the review copy of this fantastic book.
