In Your Dreams by Kristan Higgins

4.0

I’ve been waiting for Jack Holland’s story since the second book, mostly because he was a blur in previous books and I felt that I wanted to know him.

He is certainly a great guy, a bit stubborn, but such a charmer and so noble. Put a Jack Holland in your life...

About the story in this book, I have to say it is not my favourite in the Blue Heron series (that's still Faith's), but I did like it a lot and had a great time reading it (I even stayed late to finish it).

I had the feeling Emmaline's backstory was... sad, I think that's the right word for it. from the beginning with all the bullying in high school and then Kevin and the breakup and then wanting to find someone but not wanting at the same time and not knowing how to let go. I did like her a lot as main character, she was strong but also a softie sometimes, and she was sure of herself most of the time and she did like her body (*applause*). Except for the moments when she was around pretty people when she was so unsure about her appearance I was mad at her, even if I understood the feeling. And I did appreciate very, very much that there was almost no talk in this book about how a woman needs to have children to be complete in life.

Jack’s backstory was just drama for the book and it didn't impress me much. He was being stubborn about the PTSD and I was hoping that Emmaline would help him change that part, but like always he was the only one that could help himself. I thought the part with the ex-wife was a bit too much. I couldn't stand her and I think it didn't bring much to the story besides Emmaline's jealousy. I think from all Blue Heron male characters Jack has just snatched the top 1 from Levi.

The only big but I have with this book is the mass of things popping out of nowhere toward the end
Spoiler the almost suicide of Alyssa, Emmaline and Kevin’s closure conversation, pops' heart attack and faith's baby's birth, jack popping the question to Emmaline
. It felt too much and quite far-fetched the timing ¬¬

In the end I have to say I had a great time with this book, I devoured it and I recommend it to any fan of adult romance fiction. I laughed a lot out (and mostly in the train which should have been embarrassing but well...), Jack and Emmaline were very funny and very cute together. I’m just sad, because I sense this is the last book in the series and I really, really would like to keep reading about this family and the people living in Mannisport, New York, population 715.

Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin for providing me with a copy of this book.
