Save the Cat! Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody
informative

This might be the first book on writing I've read (aside from Stephen King's On Writing) that doesn't come off as BS self-flagellating fluff from the author, or preaching propaganda. It is in simple terms, a stripped-down and bare-bones look at the structure of most stories. There are valuable tools within for the newer and established writer both, that can be placed into the writer's toolbox. No, not every book can be distilled to this simplistic approach, but it can help you to find the path within your own story.
Some accuse it of being too formulaic, not ground-breaking enough. But just like in The Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell, you find what works for you within the system and build your personal routine and style with those tools. If you are looking for a secret formula or key for your writing, perhaps the problem lies more with you than with the process provided within the pages of this book and so many others like it.
