Lord of the Fading Lands stands out from the 100+ books I’ve read already this year as having an incredibly distinct writing style. Am very clear on the world or the magic rules? Hmmm not really. Enough to be intrigued? Yes definitely. Really hope that this book gets to the meat and potatoes next book tho. Also it’d be nice if the FMC grows up a little. She’s incredibly sheltered and has been smothered by her religious zealot mother. I’d like to see what she can do with a little confidence and independence.

I kind of adore the MMC. Even though he’s legit like 1010 years older (+/- 400 yrs) than the FMC. Pretty weird especially bc she acts like a 16 year old whenever she has a parent or authority figure in the room. But the fae in this series are like that really traditional JRR Tolkien style fae where you don’t forget that they’re fae half way thru the book bc they basically act like humans with pointy ears and mates.

This is a long series so I’m hoping now that the 1st books has established the world and character basics we can get down to the political intrigue the book was teasing us with.
