Amazing Place: What North Carolina Means to Writers by

4.0

This is a lovely book. One I planned on dipping into between doing school work but ended up reading from cover to cover in two sittings. It is a series of 'essays' (although not in the dry sense), maybe 'meditations' is a better word on how North Carolina has effected the writing of the contributors. It is nicely segmented into three parts, one on the Mountains and the Western part of the state, one for the Piedmont area and the last for Down East and the coast. The contributors range from those that are born and raised here, to those that just stayed a while. To the relative new comer, I only have 7 Carolinian years under my belt, it solidified all those things I love about the state and introduced me to a multitude of new things. As someone interested in writing, it is also an interesting exploration of the importance of place and the more importantly the authenticity of place in write. I highly recommend this book.
