For the Common Good: A New History of Higher Education in America by Charles Dorn

2.0

There was a lot missing in this book - student activism, Indigenous removal to create land grabs, and more - and some of what was included was a littleā€¦ weird. Why devote half a chapter to reading diary entries of women discussing crushes on other women? Does the author not think the men he wrote about had romances also? It was a book on higher ed history written by a white man for white men.

I did finish the book, but after the chapter on women took that turn, I read the rest much faster just to get through with it. Not recommended unless you specifically want to read about one of the included universities.
