Stonecutter by Camilla Läckberg
5.0
Despite being nearly 500 pages long, I read this book in just over a day. The reason was that I had a difficult time putting it down. This is the third in the Patrik Hedstrom series. He is a detective in a small, seaside town that is now heavily dependent on tourism. He has been in a serious relationship with Ericka after meeting her in the first book by the author. Now they have a baby together although they haven't yet married. Ericka is having a hard time since having the baby, a beautiful little girl named Maja. She has gained over 20lbs which hasn't come off and is suffering from postpartem depression although neither she nor Patrik realize this. (You would think that in this modern world that would have been discussed with them, but perhaps they didn't pay attention!) Also Maja wants to nurse every couple of hours - a phenomenon I remember all too well. (Luckily that doesn't last, but it seems interminable while it does.)
The author introduces the murder in the first chapter - a little girl's body is caught in his nets by a retired lobsterman. Then we go back to the past to meet Agnes, the spoiled daughter of a wealthy Swedish industrialist. After that every chapter starts with a bit about Agnes, then switches to the modern era. I actually had a suspicion halfway through, and it turned out I was right. I won't spoil it for you though. This is a real page turner. I literally couldn't put the book down!
