A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen
3.75

Alone, that was how I felt. As though I faced a great army, and all those I’d been so certain would be at my back had vanished.

I had to think about the rating for this one because while it was enjoyable and a fast read, Freya was an absolute fucking idiot. And every second sentence ended with an exclamation mark. Stop. Please. Exclamation marks don’t belong in books, only reviews lmao

“I used to dream only of fire and ash,” he whispered, running a thumb over my cheek as I lifted my face to meet his gaze. “Now when I close my eyes, all I see is your face.”

She trained with her father her entire life so she could defend herself and wield weapons, etc, but constantly trips over rocks and falls off cliffs. Okay.

“It is hard to keep one’s wits when faced with a woman as beautiful as the sight of shore to a man who has been lost at sea.”

Her personality was all over the place, like, what? And as I wrote at the top, what an idiot. She constantly fell for blatantly obvious schemes and was just *shocked face* when the bad guys were…bad guys.

There was almost no chemistry between the MCs, I liked their first interaction and then it kinda went downhill from there. Why did they love each other all of a sudden? You don’t even know each other!? The quotes I included were nice and cute, but it still didn’t change the fact that Freya and Bjorn were just…meh. The writing wasn't terrible or anything, I think Danielle just needed to add more depth to it? I dunno.

“You may get out of the water now,” I said, extremely aware that we were being watched. “And then you may apologize.”
“I’m too afraid to get out.” He continued swimming in place. “You have thrown me in the water, possibly broken my fingers, and threatened to murder me. At least in the fjord I don’t need to fear you pursuing me.”

Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada and the author for this ARC.

You may be thinking, Sophie, this book came out a million years ago, and you're only reading it now, even though you had the ARC??

1. The formatting on the ARC made it next to impossible to read, so I needed a physical copy
2. Mind ya business lmao I have too many years-old ARCS 🫠
