Awesome book! Left me emotional. Perhaps because I finished it with a few beers in an ancient pub atop Richmond Hill with its vantage above the flood swollen Thames on a raw cold dark wet night but the ending of this splendid work struck me as so indescibably sad. Certainly it gave me a new perspective on the whole sometimes prickly British-American relationship thing, this even after reading massive biographies of Churchill, Atkinson's trilogy of WW2, etc. and my own personal travails with that "special relationship" ... hey this book delivers.
