Fahrenheit 451
by Maribel Cruzado, Ray Bradbury
I have to say that I am not that much impressed about Fahrenheit 451 anymore. The idea is a good one and I also liked the description why books are considered as dangerous. It's not the book itself that counts but the contents, and you can actually find the same things if you open your eyes, use your head or travel. Burning books is only one part, you also have to make people stop thinking for themselves and prevent them from spreading their ideas. A lot of good things are said in the last part, e.g. that to leave a mark on earth a man has to touch something and change it.
The part about the tv and how it's used to manipulate the watchers was also great.
There are a coule of things that I didn't like. First, the book could have been shorten by 40 pages. I found the the world building not convincing, it felt so sterile and I can't imagine that a world like this can exist in the future. At novella length it would have worked great but not as a novel. It's also unclear how the people who live in the woods are surviving. They need something to eat, fresh water, a place to sleep etc. and these are not minor details.
Fortunately Bradbury was wrong in condemning the tv. There is a lot of stuff to entertain but you also have a good amount of documentaries or journalistic researches (not at the prime time of course).
