What Hunts Inside the Shadows by Harper L. Woods

4.0

I was apprehensive in continuing the series, but I'm glad I did. I gave this 3.5 round up to 4 stars. I think it is definitely A LOT better than the first book What Lies Beyond the Veil I think we can take out the "filler" part of What Lies Beyond the Veil and just slap it in front of this 498-page book and we can still make a decent length book.

The beginning was a little repetitive. How many times were we going to see Caelum vs. Estralla's "You're mine cuz blah blah mate bond blah blah fate." "No, I'm not." "Yes, you are." "I hate you." and then they fuck (90% of the time very violently). However, once the two worked out their differences and their goal moved towards the bigger picture for the both of them for the rest of their possibly eternal life, things got better. Caelum learned to back off on the alphahole-ness and trust Estrella to make her own decisions and do her own thing. Estrella learned a little more about herself as she was able to step outside the rigid confines placed by society.

This book finally answered a lot of questions left over from the first book. The ending was an emotional rollercoaster rivaling Maas. While the cliffhanger at the end was not so jarring that you needed to read the next book right away, you would still want to find out what would happen next as you are now invested in Estrella and Caelum's story.
