This is the most violent and in-your-face toxically masculine book I’ve read in a long time. You need to be ready for some pretty explicit descriptions of violence.
That being said, I found Cosby’s writing to be really solid compared to some other thrillers I’ve read. Multiple characters had some depth and moral complexity, and the bad guys were really, really bad. I do not like the way the women (Neveah and Jealousy) were treated in the book, but the author did give them depth.
I’m going to need to recover with some nice cozy mysteries and romcoms before returning to S.A. Cosby, but the next time I’m in the mood for a dark and gritty thriller, I’ll be back.
