Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

I’ve finally finished it! So glad I did wait to fully finish it (even though I was only like 50 pages off) cause that ending would have left me hanging?!

This book the first time I read it felt so different from Carry On. Not necessarily in a bad way but I was like Baz, expecting so much more from this relationship with Simon and it being a very different story. Again, now getting to read it back over knowing and accepting that their relationship isn’t going to be sunshine and rainbows easy peasy like that, that it’s honestly only made me love this book more!

I loved seeing all of these characters really grow and especially Simon who was truly processing (even if stubbornly and with a lot of push back which is expected) his trauma, his identity, who he is now, and what it all means, even if just a little bit at a time. It felt so much more real and raw and I think we are gonna explore that even more in the next book which I am here for!

I also loved seeing Baz get to learn more about his vampire side, what that means for him, and how little he really knows. I didn’t like Lamb, but I did like learning along with Baz and them all.

Plus Shepherd is such a fun change of pace with all his normal mindwestern feels, and openness. Really excited to see if anything develops with him and Penny.

Speaking of Penny! Loved her growth too but I really think we will get even more in the final book. Same with Agatha.

The whole Next Blood story arch has also got me intrigued.. lots still to play with there.

Already started the final book (60ish pages in!) and needdddd more! So excited and also feeling pretty wreaked right now too…
