This was an incredible grim dark read. The world building done by James was absolutely jaw dropping. It reminded me of Gardens of the Man by Erikson. You are thrust head first into an expedition to the Seven Forges and its non-stop action from there. The characters are engaging and entertaining! You will get attached to them BUT don't stay attached to many of them as James has a way of yanking the rug out from under your feet. Such an impressive fantasy debut (this was his first fantasy novel).
I discovered James A. Moore from a YouTube channel named Comic Book Palace. On there it was "leaked" that he was an epic fantasy author and boy, oh boy is he ever an epic fantasy author. I encourage all of you to give this series a spin. I will definitely be ordering the next 5 books in this series in the near future. INCREDIBLE!!! Echoes of Malazan and First Law throughout. Give him a read you will not be disappointed.
